DWPC 2008: Windows Vista and the Partner Experience

July 10

Connections...

Doug Miller - CDW

I first of all want to apologize for not posting anything yesterday - it was a crazy day for me and I was just totally overwhelmed.

Today I want to talk a little bit about relationships.  Throughout the week I have had the opportunity to meet a ton of great people at Microsoft in my space.  I would definitely have to say that the connections I have made within Microsoft this week are going to allow me to grow our business at a greatly accelerated pace.  Every person I have met with has been genuinely interested in my story and how they can help me drive more business.  The amount of excitment and the relationships I have made at this WPC are more valuable than any training or marketing material I coudl ask for...

I have found that WPC is about more than just Microsoft, it is about partners as well.  Today I dedicated to talking with other partners and ISV's, educating them on CDW and having them educate me about their products.  The synergies that have come from these interactions is amazing!  It is really exciting to be workign with people that are moving in the same direction we are and have the same goals and customer focus that we do.

Designed For Big!!

Designed for Big!!
Doug Miller, Practice Architect - CDW

Ok, So I am shamelessly stealing the System Center Ad Campaign, but I have to tell you that it describes WPC to a T.  As this is my first WPC I was totally taken aback this morning seeing a keynote with 11,999 of my peers.  It was definitely an experience!!  Having experienced several MMS's and Tech Ed's they don't even compare to the size and scope of this event.

The keynote was pretty unbelieveable!  I thought I saw Smoke coming out of Brad's ears a couple times as he was talking abotu how Microsoft is abotu to go on the offensive combatting all the mis-information abotu Windows Vista out there.  It was refreshing to see and  certainly got me fired up and excited abotu talking vista with our customers.

Big things to look forward to are the new Windows Comaptibility site at www.windows.com/compatibility... Finally a one stop shop for all your app compat information.  Also look out for the Small Business Assurance program at www.windows.com/assurance where small businesses will get free support and help with their Vista deployments.  Finally - the thing I am most looking forward to is the $300 Million ad campaign to counter all the Vista mis-information and pre-conceived notions!  What a great thing for us as partners to leverage to grow our businesses!!

I can't wait to see what else this week has to offer!!

    Pam,

Congratulations. I think the webcast was very valuable and helps us partners to have a common and unified message to give to our customers. SP1 is indeed worth it. Let’s all Partners take the challenge and use Vista internally so that we may be better prepared to answer customer’s questions and concerns. Is there a ROI tool available that we may use in our selling process?

    Regards,
